Stepping Stone is a special and unique school that has been dedicated to “excellence in education” since its founding in 1968.

Stepping Stone's environment has been carefully planned as a child enrichment center. The building design, all equipment and each and every play and learning material has been chosen with much thought as to their all around play and education value.

Recognition & Accreditation 

Stepping Stone has demonstrated this dedication to quality care, a dedication that helped us achieve National Early Childhood Program Accreditation (NECPA) in 1994 and National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) in 1998.

Family Partners

Stepping Stone Family Partners serves as a vital link between the administration, the faculty, the parents, and the community. These key communicators sponsor community awareness programs as well as special events and projects.

The Stepping Stone Family Partners' motto is "Working Together to Promote A Positive Partnership."

The organization sponsors community awareness programs that are open to the public.

Development activity projects include: Scholastic Book Fairs,

Recycling, Pre-K Literacy Bash, Campbell's Soup Labels, & Parent's Night Out.

Service projects include: Meals on Wheels, Cystic Fibrosis March, PATH, Coats for Kids, Bears on Patrol, St. Jude's Children's, Math-A-Thon, Jump for Heart, Toys for Tots, MDA Hop-A-Thon, Operation Christmas Child, Literacy Council Books.

Camille Brown

Executive Director

Camille began her career as a kindergarten lead teacher in a private school in Tyler in 1966. She taught reading in public and private school, and directed two preschool programs, which she founded. Camille is also involved in numerous national, state, and local professional and civic organizations. Her hobbies include reading, fishing, gardening, and flying. She has two children of her own, two stepchildren, twelve grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

Monica Lary


Monica Lary has been with Stepping Stone School for 20 years.  She started as a 3-year old teacher, and worked her way up through administration; becoming the assistant director in 2011, and finally the director in 2013.  Monica has her associates in Child Development from TJC, and continued her studies at UNT & UTT in Elementary Education.  Both of her children attended Stepping Stone, and are now 16 and 6 years old. 

Valerie Roberson

Assistant Director & School Age Care Coordinator

With over 35 years experience teaching all ages, Valerie Roberson has her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, and is certified to teach PreK through 8th grade.  She has taught in public & private schools in Oklahoma, California, Ohio, and Texas.  She is also a licensed home day care provider, and was a Girl Scout camp counselor for years.

LaKeitha Erwin

Administrative Assistant

Lakeitha Erwin has her associates in Criminal Justice, and spent 5 years teaching in an early childhood classroom before she moved to the administrative side of education.  She has been in administration for 3 years now, and is not only a Stepping Stone employee, but also a Stepping Stone parent!
